Job Summary: The Project Controls Analyst is responsible for analyzing and reporting on project controls for Strike’s construction and maintenance projects to include project planning, scheduling, cost estimating, cost tracking, and quality review. The Project Control Analyst will assist Project Controls Director and team to establish operating policies to bring standardization and mitigate project risk. Primary Job Function:
Collaborate closely with Project Controls, Project Managers, Engineers, Procurement, and Construction teams to understand reporting needs and provide data-driven insights.
Design, develop, and maintain dashboards and visualizations using Power BI, incorporating advanced Power Query and data modeling techniques.
Build and maintain Excel models, including Pivot Tables, and financial modeling for forecasting and cost control.
Analyze project performance data (e.g., WIP, cost variance, schedule variance) to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Evaluate projects using data-driven methods to determine whether they are on track or in trouble.
Develop and maintain SQL queries to retrieve and validate data from relational databases.
Support and maintain metadata integrity, ensure job tagging, data dictionaries, and hierarchies are accurate and updated.
Lead and enforce data governance practices, ensuring compliance with internal standards and industry best practices.
Collaborate with accounting to ensure accurate cost hierarchies and integration with financial systems like JDE.
Create and maintain scalable training programs and process documentation for enterprise-wide adoption.
Continuously identify and implement improvements in the data analytics and project controls processes.
Leverage AI tools to accelerate data analysis, report generation, and process documentation while maintaining accuracy and data confidentiality standards.
Identify opportunities to apply AI and automation to repetitive project controls tasks such as data validation, variance commentary, and report drafting.
Evaluate emerging AI capabilities within existing platforms and recommend adoption where they improve speed or quality.
Technical Skills: Required:
AI Tools & Prompt Engineering: Working proficiency with generative AI assistants (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) for analysis, drafting, and automation support
Power BI – including Power Query, DAX, data modeling
Microsoft Excel – Advanced formulas, Pivot Tables, VBA/macros, modeling
SQL – Writing and validating complex queries
Earned Value Management (EVM) – Including productivity KPIs and Rules of Credit
Data Visualization – Ability to create impactful visuals that tell the story behind the data
Communication – Strong ability to explain technical data to non-technical stakeholders
Project Management – Juggle multiple deadlines and shifting priorities
Business Acumen – Ability to learn and understand business operations, processes, and functions, and the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation
Collaboration – Partner cross-functionally to deliver accurate and timely information
