General Foreman

The General Foreman is responsible for the performance and supervision of foremen and hourly craftsmen in their assigned area of responsibility.  Specifically, this includes: safety of the workforce and the workplace, quality of work performed, efficiency and effectiveness of work being performed, supporting construction schedules and labor targets.  The Lead General Foreman is responsible for the assignment and direction of qualified general foremen and foremen to effectively perform primary roles of production supervision and collaboration.  The Lead General Foreman is expected to provide leadership through effective communications, coaching, training and development and to provide problem resolution to facilitate improved workflow and work relationships. 

Primary Job Function:

  • Management of projects and work crews.
  • Create an efficient working environment, keep costs low and maintain employee morale.
  • Maintain safe working conditions on the job site by monitoring employees to ensure they are compliant with both federal safety mandates and established safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the work produced to maintain quality.

Experience/Education:

  • A minimum of 10 years production leadership is required; previous experience as a craftsman, foreman, and general foreman in the assigned trade is required.
  • Supervisory experience along with relevant field experience within the pipeline construction industry.
  • High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from a certified college.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an associate’s degree or diploma in a related field of study.

Competencies:

  • Identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and    implement solutions.
  • Manage own time as directed by the Superintendent
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Physical Requirements:

  • Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting and reaching to include walking and standing 80% of the time.
  • Frequent activities requiring handling and grasping with the hands to turn wrenches and valves.
  • Occasional use of arms to reach above the head and will occasionally work on ladders and climb stairs.
  • Occasional lifting and pulling of up to 20 lbs., frequent lifting and pulling of up to 50 lbs., and occasional lifting and pulling of up to 75 lbs.
  • Exposure to flammables will exposure to the elements 100% of the time.
  • Ability to drive company vehicle for job performance.
  • Common eye, hand, finger, leg and foot dexterity exist.
  • Communicating, hearing and seeing required for completion of essential functions.
  • Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and some creative problem solving.
  • Some daily aspects of the job pose threats or hazards capable of producing severe physical injury.
  • Exposure to bright lights, extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust, gas and/or fumes.
  • Exposure to construction sites.

  • Complies with Strike’s Drug & Alcohol Policy maintaining favorable drug testing results throughout employment.
  • Performs job safely with respect to others, property and individual safety.
  • Works effectively with others to encourage teamwork and productivity.
