Job Summary:
The Estimating Manager is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and proposals for fabrication and electrical projects, including OEM metering skids, process piping, and electrical installations. This position manages the estimating process from bid review through handoff, ensuring proposals meet client requirements and internal margin objectives. Additionally, this role oversees application engineering support to ensure technical compliance with client specifications, serving as a key liaison between clients, operations, and vendors.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Utilize approved company methods, historical data, and estimating tools to develop detailed, competitive cost estimates.
  • Review RFQs, project specifications, and drawings to prepare comprehensive material and labor takeoffs.
  • Coordinate bid strategy and pricing reviews with operations and management to ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Prepare detailed proposals and cost breakdowns, including scope clarifications, exclusions, and commercial terms.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously update labor factors, pricing databases, and historical cost records.
  • Engage with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing, technical data, and alternative solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews and assist in preparing application drawings or conceptual layouts for proposals.
  • Provide technical support to clients and internal teams, ensuring proposed solutions meet specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Attend client pre-bid meetings, job walks, and site visits to gather critical information and assess site conditions.
  • Maintain clear, accurate documentation of findings from site visits and client interactions.
  • Oversee the transition from estimate to execution by participating in project kickoffs and supporting project managers with scope clarifications.
  • Clearly communicate estimate assumptions, methodologies, and details to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with operations, procurement, and engineering teams to validate estimate components and gather necessary input.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative construction approaches during estimate preparation.
  • Maintain and improve estimating tools, templates, spreadsheets, and software to drive efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support the preparation of bid packages and presentations for internal and external review.
  • Build and sustain strong client relationships through professional, responsive communication.

Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Engineering, Construction Management, or related field). Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in industrial fabrication, process piping, or electrical construction.
  • Familiarity with OEM skid fabrication, ASME/ANSI codes, NEC requirements, and industrial electrical installations is highly preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems, estimating software (such as MS Excel advanced functions, Accubid, or similar), and reading complex P&IDs, isometrics, and electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project is a plus.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • May require occasional travel to project sites and client meetings.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with regular sitting, standing, and computer use.
  • Occasional site visits require walking on uneven ground, exposure to active construction environments, and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Must have adequate vision for reading plans, documents, and computer screens.
