Job Summary
The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Specialist is responsible for identifying, eliminating, and controlling hazardous conditions to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. Utilizing Strike’s HSE standards, best practices, and analytical techniques, the HSE Specialist supports project teams by implementing effective safety strategies and ensuring regulatory compliance. This role requires frequent travel and extended stays at project sites. Will be working on a project in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Specialist is responsible for identifying, eliminating, and controlling hazardous conditions to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. Utilizing Strike’s HSE standards, best practices, and analytical techniques, the HSE Specialist supports project teams by implementing effective safety strategies and ensuring regulatory compliance. This role requires frequent travel and extended stays at project sites. Will be working on a project in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
- Site Safety Management
- Plan and execute HSE requirements for the project site in alignment with Strike’s policies.
- Conduct and facilitate daily HSE meetings and toolbox talks.
- Perform routine job site safety inspections and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and recommend preventive measures.
- Incident & Risk Management
- Investigate all incidents and near-misses; identify root causes and develop mitigation strategies.
- Lead or participate in Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) and post-incident reviews.
- Administer the Company’s Substance Abuse Program, including onsite drug and alcohol testing.
- Manage return-to-work programs and coordinate Workers’ Compensation processes.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure site operations comply with all applicable OSHA, PHMSA, FMCSA, EPA, TCEQ, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Support development and enforcement of Temporary Traffic Control Plans and safety procedures.
- Training & Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, training sessions, and other HSE-related activities.
- Deliver HSE training for employees and supervisors.
- Collaborate with subcontractors to ensure their HSE performance aligns with project requirements.
- Team Collaboration
- Engage project personnel in fostering a strong safety culture through communication, leadership, and teamwork.
- Act as a safety advisor to field teams and management, offering practical, solutions-based guidance.
Experience
- 4–10 years of HSE experience in construction or industrial environments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Required certifications: OSHA 500, First Aid/CPR.
- Additional safety certifications (e.g., CHST, STS, or CSP) are a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with timely decision-making based on HSE best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and quality-focused.
- Professional demeanor with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and external partners.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence safe behavior in the field.
- Physically capable of working long hours in varying outdoor conditions.
- Willingness to travel frequently and remain on-site for the duration of projects.
- Must adhere to Strike’s policies, including the Drug & Alcohol Policy.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Demonstrates commitment to personal and team safety, as well as the safety of others.
